Try training you eye to see everything applying this rule. It might feel wrong in the beginning, but it will tremendously help later on. If you want, you can shoot the same subject with and without applying this rule and compare the results. When you shoot portrait, try to get the closest yet to the camera to one of the intersections. This simple framing rule will help you get better images in general.

With good lighting and good framing you are half way closer to becoming a professional photographer! This is a very important rule that you should always keep in mind, but not necessarily use for every picture. Truthfully, I shoot without think where the lines are or if I should apply any rules whatsoever. I shoot using my common sense, taste, and experience, which is what you will need to develop fi you want to step up your game.
